SPLASH

World missions is Priority 1 at Calvary Temple. We are fully committed to fulfilling the Great Commission that Jesus gave His followers in Matthew chapter 28.

Ps 67 states, “O God, in mercy bless us; let your face beam with joy as you look down at us. Send us around the world with the news of your saving power and your eternal plan for all mankind. How everyone throughout the earth will praise the Lord! How glad the nations will be, singing for joy because you are their King and will give true justice to their people! Praise God, O world! May all the peoples of the earth give thanks to you. For the earth has yielded abundant harvests. God, even our own God, will bless us. And peoples from remotest lands will worship him.” TLB

Here the passionate desire of the Psalmist is to see the news of God's almighty deeds published throughout the world-that the nations would experience God's saving health and justice, and joyously sing His praises.

A right understanding of missions will point to God in His Trinitarian economy as the original and ongoing source of mission. It is the mission of God, yet God uses individuals who are frail and have sinful tendencies to carry out His mission. Paul, fraught with weakness, was called as God's "chosen instrument" to take His name "before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel" (Acts 9:15). An instrument does nothing on its own, but depends upon a user to make use of it for a specific purpose. Scripture is replete with other examples of reluctant messengers whom God nevertheless used powerfully in His mission (Moses, Jonah, Daniel, to mention a few). You and I are no less significant and capable of accomplishing exploits as we willingly make ourselves and our resources available to the Trinitarian mission…the salvation of the world! When You Pray: Praying for Missions in Canada as Leaders

1. Pray for the largest missionary challenge in the Western Word, the francophone people of Quebec. Over 99% do not have a personal faith in Jesus.

2. Pray for the youth and young adults of Canada. Over 80% are not attending a place of worship of any kind regularly. A majority of post-secondary Christian young adults drop out of church after high school.

3. Pray for the 200,000+ Newcomers who arrive in Canada annually from other countries. 95% do not know Jesus personally.

4. Pray for Canada's Aboriginal community. Christian natives faithfully share the Good News in the face of massive spiritual, physical and social needs.

5. Pray for a greater wave of witness within urban Canada. Entire demographic groups of Canadians who live in-city are relatively unreached by the Church.

6. Pray for those ministering in rural or northern Canada who often wrestles with isolation and scarcity of resources.

There are many ways for you to get involved with our growing missions ministry, both at home and overseas.

For the past five years we have focused much of our overseas efforts into Haiti, one of the poorest country in the Western world. We are partnering with Haitian Pastor Wilson Charles, building a school/medical clinic in the remote area of Mt. Mare Rosseaux where there is no electricity or running water.

We also send teams to assist PAOC missionaries Michel and Louise Charbonneau with their large children's ministry in Port au Prince, Haiti.

In the future we are planning to broaden our Missions experience by sending short term missions trips to various ‘Mission Hot Spots’ around the world. Keep checking back for ANNOUNCEMENTS

In preparation for participation you will be required to fill out an application form and attend live or virtual-training sessions.

A refundable deposit is required to hold your spot on one of these trips.

You can also get involved with a home missions project in one of our Maritime District churches. We have committed to help SonLife Church in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with their renovation project. We need painters, builders, plumbers and electricians to help with the many jobs required in that project. Call the Calvary church office for more information about this opportunity.

Due to the escalating violence in Port au Prince, Haiti throughout the past two year, our scheduled short term mission trips to Haiti has been postponed indefinitely.

Those who were booked to participate on that trip will be given priority seating for our next rescheduled STM trip, most likely in the Fall of 2007.

NEW HAPPENINGS @ CT

  • We recently established a ‘HAITIAN MINISTRY REVIEW COMMITTEE’ to evaluate our present and future ministry to the people of Haiti. The committee will be reporting to the church board in July 2007.
  • Calvary Temple’s ‘MISSIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE’ is working with the church board to design a NEW mission focus. Keep checking back for NEW and EXCITING opportunities.

Keep checking back to our missions page, right here, for the most recent updates on STM dates and costs.

Continue to pray for the Charbonneaus and Charles families as they represent us on this tenuous field.
