What We Believe
Our Worship
|
At Calvary Temple, we worship in a biblical style,
with the following scriptures as points of reference.
We stand when we sing
2 Chronicles 20:19 The Levites, . . . stood up to praise the LORD
God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
We clap our hands
Psalm 47:1 O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the
voice of joy.
We lift our hands
Psalm 63:4 So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up
my hands in Your name.
Psalm 134:2 Lift up your hands to the sanctuary and bless the LORD.
1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting
up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
We encourage audible praise unto God
Psalm 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall
continually be in my mouth.
Acts 4:24 And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to
God with one accord . . .
We sing choruses as well as hymns
Ephesians 5:18-19 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation,
but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your
heart to the Lord;
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you,
with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your
hearts to God.
We believe in prophesying
Amos 3:8 A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has
spoken! Who can but prophesy?
1 Corinthians 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of
the Spirit for the common good, . . . and to another prophecy, .
. .
1 Corinthians 14:1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts,
but especially that you may prophesy.
1 Corinthians 14:3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification
and exhortation and consolation.
1 Corinthians 14:31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that
all may learn and all may be exhorted;
We anticipate speaking in tongues and the interpretation
of those tongues
1 Corinthians 12:7,10 But to each one is given the manifestation
of the Spirit for the common good . . . and to another various kinds
of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by
two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret;
1 Corinthians 14:39 Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to
prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues.
We use musical instruments as part of the worship service
Psalms 150:3-5 Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp
and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed
instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with
resounding cymbals.
Why do we worship like this?
John 4:23-24 But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers
will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the
Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
Eight reasons why we pray over special needs
1. We believe that those who hope in the Lord will renew their
strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and
not grow weary, they will walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).
2. We believe that we ought to pray for each other so that [we]
may be healed (James 5:16).
3. We believe that when you, come near to God, he will come
near to you (James 4:8).
4. We believe in a public confession of faith as Jesus taught: "Whoever
acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my
Father in heaven" (Matthew 10:32).
5. We believe that we need to carry each other's burdens, and in
this way fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2), and that,
we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak (Romans
15:1).
6. We believe Jesus' words that, "if two of you on earth agree about anything
you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven" (Matthew
18:19).
7. We believe that God can solve in a moment the problems that man
has tried to solve over weeks or years, for with man this is impossible,
but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
8. We want to provide the opportunity for people to exercise the
reality of God's Word in their lives following the preaching. Taste
and see that the LORD is good (Psalm 34:8).
